Surya Baghawan (Sun)
LORD SURIYAN (ADITYA OR SUN)
This temple is dedicated to the Sun (star) around which all other planets revolve. The influence of weaker Sun would lead to diseases such as Typhoid, Lack of strength in bones, Eye problem etc. The prescribed remedy according to the priests are in form of fasting on Sundays, donating a cow and worship of Sun.

This temple is close to Aduthurai and 15 km from Kumbakonam and a Kali Amman Temple that should be visited.
Importance of this temple:
This temple is dedicated to the Sun God and it has shrines for the other eight celestial bodies - the Nava Grahams. Suriyanar (Sun) Temple tower is 15.5 meter high. It has three tiers. At the top of the tower there are five kalasam. Outside the Rajagopuram (main tower) in the north side there is a holy tank called Surya Pushkarni where one should take a bath, and those who are not in a position to bath should sprinkle water on their head.
As you enter the Temple on the right side there is the Theertha Vinayakar (Ganesh) Sannidhi and in the northern corridor you can find Thejas Chandikeswarar Sannidhi.
Surya Baghawan is positioned facing west accompanied on both sides by his consorts Usha and Chayadevi. After Surya Baghawan one should go to Sabanayakar Mandapam and offer prayers to Lord Nataraja, the Navagraha, and at Sthabana Mandapam worship Sri Kasi Viswanathar and Sri Visalakshi Ammai.
